The Power of Starting small — [Accomplish Anything BIG]
Starting small is known by most of us...well, "known" by most of us. Whether or not we follow this rule is another story.
BUT, the thing is, IF we do it right, it can be very powerful.
Starting small is only powerful when you have a planned RATE OF IMPROVEMENT. Let's look at an example where I wanted to meditate for 20 minutes a day.
My first attempt was to 'just do it' and I got maybe 30 days or so over the course of 2 years. Then I started small but, alongside that, I PLANNED out how I would get to my end goal of 20 minutes.
I started with 5 minutes per day and then set specific goal posts that would tell me if I was trying to do too much, the right amount, or if I could do more #goldilocks.
Here's how it looked:
If I do 1-3 days of meditation, then I will do 1 minute less the next week.
If I do 4-5 days of meditation, then I will do the same amount of time the next week.
If I do 6-7 days of meditation, then I will do 1 minute more the next week.
Super simple. And the key here is to ACTUALLY FOLLOW what you set out because if you don't, then you will not believe yourself when you set out to change your behavior. You're effectively telling yourself, "this isn't really a rule, I can always change it later".
Start small. Plan your rate of improvement.
